Consultant Interview: Kate

In May, Kate joined our team as a Senior Consultant. She has been fab and it feels as though she has been here forever! Previously, she had been a PA in the Royal Household and at an Exec search company. We thought we would ask a few questions about her transition from being a PA to a Recruitment Consultant: What did you enjoy about being a PA? I loved the variety of the role and developing a close relationship with both the team and the Principals I worked for. It was fantastic working for the Royal Household and meeting some remarkable people. Why did you make the change into recruitment? I wanted a new challenge and I thought that having spent the last 8 years as a PA, I could relate to candidates and also understand clients’ needs. What is it like working in recruitment? I love it!! There is nothing better than telling a candidate that they have got a job! It is so satisfying matching the right candidates to clients, ensuring both parties are happy. Thoughts on approaching a…

WLTM - Career.  Must be rewarding, stimulating, challenging, flexible... Some thoughts on how to approach a career plan.   I was very fortunate to join Pip Cox, Managing Director of Joyce Guiness at a tremendously inspiring event hosted by Addie Pinkster and Alex Corley-Smith of Adelpha. The guest speaker was Jan Babiak a frankly awe-inspiring individual and very successful businesswoman. Jan’s words and her story gave us so many thoughts and ideas it is hard to whittle these down to one area however, Jan’s comments around the benefits of a life plan resonated very strongly with Pip and I. We are both fortunate in that we meet a wide variety of candidates across different sectors and at various stages of their careers.  Experience has shown us that individuals can struggle as they leave university or full-time education as they are faced with a smorgasbord of potential career options.  It can be difficult for them to isolate a career path, as well as identifying the right job and company for them. With that, we wanted to take some time to look at how individuals might put together a career plan that will hopefully provide clarity and framework, not only at the start of their working lives, but also potentially as they progress and explore other industries and roles.  Each person is, of course, different and so how you approach your plan..

5 Tips to secure…

Trying to second-guess what questions you may be asked, in any interview, is always daunting.  But .... before you get yourself into a flustered panic ...relax...we are going to let you in on the secret of how to answer  questions like a pro! What are your career goals? With this question, your future employer wants to gauge how long you intend to stay within the company or role.  Definitely refer to the position you are being interviewed for and where you hope to see yourself progressing to within this company. This will also show that you have done your research on the company and different possible positions that you may see yourself reaching in time. But remember don run before you can walk! It is important to show that you are interested in progressing in your career and that you are motivated. Why do you want to leave your current company? This, too, is a very important question and is imperative to get right. Rather than talking about what is driving you away from your current company and employment and discussing any negatives you may have with them, you need to focus on what you wish to achieve with a new move and how you hope it will help you gain valuable experience in your career path.  Highlight some aspects of the job you are being interviewed for, that you..
