New Year, New Job…

It is a New Year, and now is a popular time for people to be looking for jobs and for clients to be recruiting for their jobs to be filled. We thought that it would be a good time to revisit a blog which was written to give advice on securing the first role in London. Importance of Team Building

Our team (Team JG) did something different this week; we went to Shaftsbury Avenue to try out the new Crystal Maze. If you were ever a fan of the show you will know how the game works.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with the 90’s show, you are led through a ‘maze’ or different themed rooms with various challenges in each. Led by an enthusiastic host, you are left to work as a team and must help each other pass each challenge. This was not just your everyday work outing, this was a team building exercise! This was a time for us to combine our expertise and skills to work together and encourage each other to win the game and therefore collect as many crystals as possible. In our day jobs at Joyce Guiness we very much rely on each other as we all have our individual duties to complete, which when put together, complete the main task.  It is important therefore that we are able to work together as a team and coordinate ideas and skills. When doing team building activities these can highlight various characteristics and skills of individuals that you might not have known about before. Education Vs Me. Cia…

At this point I realised all I needed to do is something I really loved, and I could do it and was more than capable, I was just lacking confidence. I went from someone with little self-assurance in the things I could achieve to realising my parents had set me up with the opportunity to accomplish anything and everything I could ever want, all I needed to do is put my mind to it.   I had aspirations of going to Oxford Brookes with an unconditional offer, joining all my friends. Within 3 months of working in a restaurant and meeting the most amazing people, I realised quickly that doing three years in a classroom again was just not for me.   My mind suddenly opened and this whole new aspect of life started to appear. This was news for everyone, especially my parents. I worked tirelessly for four months before going off traveling and saying goodbye to all the anxiety I had before, starting my own life and being me! I found out about Oxford Media and Business school by complete chance, at a dinner party which I wasn’t initially meant to attend. It is Okay to…

When it comes to finishing school and having to take your next step, it can be very intimidating and scary. There are so many options and limitations that sometimes you can get overwhelmed. Choosing from the thousands of different universities and colleges to decide which one would suit you or even deciding if you want to go to college or Uni at all is a difficult decision. Making the wrong decision can happen but it’s important to remember that wrong decision are just a stepping stone in your journey.   For me deciding what I was going to do didn’t really cross my mind. School pushed everyone to go to University; so, I just assumed that that was what I should be doing too. I looked at one University, applied, and got in. In summer I didn’t think about it and then the time came. I went to University and decided that it wasn’t for me. I didn’t want to do three more years of education. That is when a friend told me about Oxford Media and Business school. It was a year course in Oxford; this was right up my alley.   I have loved it. It has been so interesting and eye-opening learning about things that I will actually need in the workplace. I feel like I am actually being prepared for my future and I have been..

Uni to go or…

Coming to the end of A-levels two years ago most have vague ideas on what they want to do or at least had some inkling on where they wanted to end up -  or no idea at all. For me this wasn’t the case, I knew exactly where I wanted to be and what I wanted, I personally was set on going into neuroscience and cancer biology. My plans, however, were thwarted by mental health, which is greatly acknowledged now, struggling for four years after losing your best friend can change your perspective on a lot of things which was the case for me personally. Nearing my exams, I decided to throw my plans all out the window and go in the complete opposite direction and not go to university at all. Granted this decision was swayed by having to drop two A-levels due to absence but once I had decided not to go, there was no changing my mind. I ended up traveling the world and experiencing new cultures to try and find my new purpose in life. It was when I got back months later when I heard about Oxford Media and Business School.
