New Year, New You!
We hear you, it was the day after Boxing Day, you were sitting there in a food coma and slightly champagne’d out. The thought of New Year resolutions were swirling through your head and it was then that you decided you would stop eating sugar, never drink again, become a gym bunny and look for a new job.
Here at Joyce Guiness, we love helping people and this blog is going to give you top tips for sticking to the New Year Resolutions! From gym classes to finding New Jobs we are here to help!
When it is dark, cold and rainy it is easy to make excuses why either you cannot go to the gym before work or that you are too tired to go after work. One way to combat this is to sign up for a class. If you drop out, you are not only letting the instructor down, but also someone else who might have gone! There are plenty of amazing classes in London to suit everyone’s needs and even if you just do one once you have to see what you are missing!
Barre Core is Clare’s favourite! It is set apart from most classes because it uses a barre to tone and shape all your muscles. In their words you will leave the class feeling like ‘bambi’.
Psycle London does what it says, but to the extreme. These spinning studios have bright lights, loud music and such great instructors. You leave the room feeling revived and motivated!
Barry’s bootcamp is possibly the most intense, difficult but rewarding workout I have ever done. I could not recommend it more! With a mixture of weight training and cardio (on their ultra smart treadmills), this will get you a Victoria Secret Body in no time!
The Lomax offers a variety of classes including spinning and yoga. Their signature class is the Blast Class, which is an all body circuit and will make you feel on top of the world when you come out!
PLACES TO GO FOR THE ULTIMATE MOCKTAIL
There are a few of us in the office who are trying to conquer dry January without becoming absolute social recluses! In order to do this we have researched the best mocktails in town, which will soften the blow of not being able to drink the real deal.
DANDELYON, SOUTH BANK
The cocktail of choice at this bar is the ‘River Phoenix’. Wow! It is certainly different but it is like an explosion of the best flavours. We believe that it has burnt apricot and pine nut crumble in it as well as oolong which is a special Chinese tea. YUM!
The cocktail of choice is the ‘Wolverine’. This drink is a mix of seedlip spice 94 (the new non-alcoholic spirit), apple & rhubarb juice, passionberry, pennyroyal syrup, bitter lemon tonic. This prohibition bar does not accept walk-ins and so you have to pre book if you would like to visit!
CINAMON CLUB, OLD WESTMINSTER LIBRARY, WESTMINSTER
Having not been here, I can only believe the good things that I have heard about this establishment. A friend who was doing Sober October went here and raved about the Berry Bliss which is a cocktail with a blend of seasonal fruits and bitter lemon.
SEXY FISH, BERKELEY SQUARE
If you are looking to push the boat out, Sexy Fish has a “size zero” section of their menu. It includes the most delicious Southside cocktail which has the Seedlip green garden as the base. I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise, so go and see the refreshing drink for yourself!
SUGAR FREE SNACKS
There are so many delicious snacks which do not include sugar but taste just as good. Although we are more expert on the sugary snacks, here are a few tried and tested sugar free alternatives.
LIVIA’S KITCHEN- MILLIONAIRE SHORTBREAD
These are arguably better than sugary millionaire shortbread. Utterly delicious, bitesize guilt-free biscuits. They use dates instead of refined sugar but satisfy the sweet cravings as well as a chocolate biscuit would. You must try their orange version, which tastes just like a jaffa cake!
DELICIOUSLY ELLA’S RASPBERRY AND CHOCOLATE COOKIES
WOWOW! These are not totally guilt free but they are completely sugar free. They look delicious and although I have never tried them, I have tried a lot of the Deliciously Ella sweet treats which turn out to be real crowd pleases and absolutely delicious!
We hope that our little pearls of wisdom have helped you in the quest for a healthier you. Look out for our New Job blog coming out on Friday!

We appreciate that the ‘hybrid era’ is upon us, but how much flexible working is beneficial - not only to the candidate but to an employers business as a whole? We have discussed here before how the workplace is changing. Some businesses are just catching up while others are leading the march on flexible working and have been advocating this for a good few decades. Changes and requests continue to come on both sides of the candidate client experience. However, it is important to ask – what is going to be of best benefit to you and your employer’s business health going forward. We all learnt what was possible, and how quickly a new way could be achieved when we needed to respond to keeping our businesses and jobs alive during the pandemic; albeit with a fair amount of pain – but we got there! So many of you have understandably welcomed this new order with open arms, countless candidates are loving the cost savings and flexibility of operating from the spare room or kitchen table – benefits aplenty, such as extra family time, lower commute costs, the ability to prepare dinner or throw a wash on at lunchtime etc. But it’s my belief that this is not entirely sustainable or a healthy reality if not approached with balance and can lead to problems for the individual down the line...

Here at Joyce Guiness we are currently working with a range of executive search and recruitment agencies covering a variety of industries: hospitality, leisure, travel, finance, investment, and real estate - to name a few. These roles really offer a great career for a candidate looking to get into the world of recruitment, and our recruiter clients would all be fab teams to join! Salaries vary from £23-35k and offer a wide range of great benefits.

At this time of year it’s normal to reflect back on the year we’ve had, and think about the type of new year we would like to see ahead. It may seem we have little control over things against the backdrop of the dreaded COVID, and its impact on our life and freedom, but it is worth reminding you that there are things very much within our control when it comes to our immediate surroundings. We spend a huge amount of time at work, thinking about work, talking about work, travelling to work and so on, therefore, it’s important that we constantly question what’s good for us. So, we encourage you to ask is your job one that you truly look forward to on a Monday morning? Does it inspire you? Are you excited to knuckle down and give it your all? Do you have a great team to work with? Are bosses or peers a positive influence on you? There are many questions worth asking yourself, and there are many vacancies out there that could give you the answer you are looking for! Do not be afraid of change, life is too short and - as we have seen over the last three years - it can be unpredictable too. So, with that in mind, have a think about a new future for yourself and visualise what it might..

How to get the most our of your relationship with your recruitment consultant. Before working in recruitment myself, I had no idea how much easier using a recruitment agency could make a job search – I had never used one before, much to my now regret! Your recruitment consultant really will go above and beyond for you, if you let them, and if you do some things for them in return. Outlined below are some tips on how to get the best out of your relationship with your recruitment consultant. Follow these steps and you could land your dream job sooner than expected, or at the very least have on your side a trusty ally with a wealth of industry know-how at their fingertips. Build a rapport with your recruiter Your recruitment consultant will become your new best friend while you’re working together, you’ll speak a lot during your job hunt and the better you let us get to know you, the easier our job is. The more you open up and share with your recruiter, the better your rapport will be with them. This will ensure you sit at the forefront of their mind and will work massively in your favour when new jobs come into the agency. The better your rapport with your consultant, the more likely they are to share extra tips, industry knowledge and advice..

LinkedIn plays a huge part when it comes to searching for a new job. Once your CV has been submitted to a potential employer be it via a direct application or a recruitment agency, one of the first things the employer will do is to search for you on LinkedIn and Social Media. LinkedIn allows you to search for jobs, post your digital CV, connect with individuals and allows you to be searched for by future employers, recruitment consultants and so on. The search aspect helps to narrow the parameters making the search more relevant to potential employers. You want to stand out from the competition and be the one who gets noticed, so how do you go about this and how should you best construct your profile? First and foremost, your profile must be clear and as many of the other relevant sections of your profile must be filled in as this makes it easier for the relevant industry experts and potential hirers to find you. Make sure you include a background image and a professional photo of yourself. Write a summary, this could be similar to your personal profile and should include any relevant skills and experience, as then it is easier for you to be found in a search if you do so. Include your past jobs and experience and the years you were at each company..

On Wednesday, Pip and Louisa went to a Sistrs Speed Mentoring lunch; Pip was speaking about the ways in which you can write an attention-grabbing CV and ‘nail’ your interview preparation, ensuring that you leave a strong lasting impression. For those of you that don’t know anything about Sistr, it’s a network where women can connect, support and learn from each other. It’s aimed at women in business and offers you instant support from a wide range of women, all with different business experiences, with varying advice to give. The lunch was held in order for the Sistrs, and other women who were looking for a ‘leg up’ in their careers, to be able to mingle, network and ask questions. Everyone could also listen to the four ‘Gurus’ who were there to talk about how they got to where they are today and to impart their top tips relating to their area of expertise. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet many people, with such a wide range of experience and get instant answers on areas where you may have had questions. Pip and Louisa had a great time meeting and talking to everyone and hearing about their experiences whilst sharing useful tips to assist with their next interviews and job applications! Sistr are doing a fantastic thing, allowing women from all areas of the working world, to form a..

Every year as a team, we like to do something a little different and take the opportunity to spend some time together outside of the office. This year was no exception and we have returned to the office after a fantastic day and a half outside of London. On Tuesday we brought our overnight bags packed with thermals and hot water bottles into the office and left work after lunch to head to Hampshire where we would be glamping for the night. We arrived at our destination, Manor Farm, which is part of the Featherdown Collection, and were greeted by clear blue skies and beautiful views over the fields and hills. Manor farm offers a collection of accommodation options and we had opted for the tents which have a hot tub and separate showers. Being glamping, there was no electricity and so the most important thing was to get the stoves lit to heat the tents, and our food(!), along with lighting the hot tubs for some evening entertainment. We had a fantastic evening sitting outside by the fire, enjoying being out of London together. After a good night’s sleep in the beds in our tents, we had breakfast and packed up, ready to go to our next stop – Newlyns Farm Shop and cookery school. Despite the amazing farm shop, and surrounding boutiques, we weren’t there to shop, but..

What if I told you that you could dream your ideal role into reality? Or more specifically, create it? This might sound like madness but stay with me and let me tell you how you can do just that. Before I continue, allow me to introduce myself. I am Faye, a Purpose & Life Coach otherwise known as The ‘What If’ Coach. I specialise in supporting individuals to go from feeling lost and frustrated to feeling focused and inspired. I am a trained Coach, I’ve studied BSc (Hons) Psychology and I am fascinated with learning about the power of the mind. Why? Because our minds create our entire reality and when you learn to shift your mindset, you can literally change your entire world. I appreciate this concept may feel a little out there right now but stay with me. If I had to take a guess, you are likely searching for jobs by scrolling through job adverts and applying for ones you think you are capable of doing. Am I right? This is certainly one way, but I’m here to suggest that there is a much more powerful way to create the role you want. You see, whatever you feed your mind and your subconscious, it will begin to look for in the world. Your subconscious does not know the difference between what is real and what..

Are you on University holidays or have you just graduated and are looking to gain some office experience and make some summer pocket money? Temp work has various advantages and it is something that we recommend doing, not only to help build up your CV but also to get a feel for different types of offices and industries and perhaps help you decide what sort of environment you would like to work in eventually. Some people may think that temping offers you the odd day here and there; there are also opportunities to spend weeks to months within the same temp job. Whatever period of time it is that you are looking to fill, you will likely be able to find a temp job to match. Below are some of the top advantages of temping. Try before you buy If you are unsure of the sort of industry, office or role that you would like to go into or perhaps haven’t spent any time in an office before, then temping offers you the opportunity to experience different environments and varying roles (depending on prior experience), allowing you to gain experience and ‘try before you buy’. This is a great thing as it means that when you come to look for a full time job, if that is what you would like to do, then you may have a more defined..

Last week we had Tess, a student at Oxford Media & Business School working with us and gaining experience of being in an office. She spent her week doing lots of social media, writing job adverts and learning how to manoeuvre around the website and how to add jobs and content to it. We thought she was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed having her in the office with us. For those of you finishing school and not sure whether to go to university, straight into the workplace or looking for something different to do, have a read of the blog that Tess has written for us about her time at Oxford Media & Business School. Thank you Tess! I originally had a place at Oxford Brookes to study Anthropology, however during my gap year, I realised that I was picking the course for the sake of going to University. After doing some work, it was evident that I wanted to get into the working world as soon as possible, rather than studying for three more years. After some research into alternatives to University, I came across the Professional Business Diploma course at Oxford Media & Business School. This course was exactly what I was looking for and so I made the conscious decision to withdraw my University offer. The course has given me the opportunity to spend a year in..

For those of you that have spent a summer in London, you know it can be a very busy, expensive time of year. When you finish work and the sun is out there is nothing better than to go outside and have a nice cold drink! There is a whole host of things to do in London in the summer other than just going to the pub though. Whether it is just exploring some parks you haven’t been to yet or trying out some new hotspots, we have collated some of the top things to do in London this summer season. Outdoor Swimming If we are in for another scorcher like we had last year, there is nothing quite as refreshing as a dip in some fresh, cold water. Lots of you do brave a swim during the cooler months, but it certainly isn’t as welcoming as when you are doing it to escape the daytime heat or to refresh after a long day. Whether you are looking for an outdoor pool, heated or not, then head over to the Lido’s spotted around the city or, if you are brave enough, you can head straight to the serpentine for some fresh water swimming! Best Parks If you don’t fancy cramming around a swimming pool, what’s better than lying in a park with some drinks and snacks, or even better,..

If you follow our blogs and social media, you will know that we have followed Kiko Matthews over the past year or two and you will know what amazing challenges she has overcome. Among other things, in March 2018, Kiko became the fastest woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean as a solo rower. She did this 3284 mile row in 49 days, 7 hours and 15 minutes, which is a whole week faster than the previous record holder. Kiko is now taking on a different challenge; cycling the coast of the UK and Northern Ireland with the intention of raising awareness of the problem of single use plastic. In recent years, the dramatic effects that plastics are having on the environment and the world’s oceans has been much more publicised and more steps are being taken towards the prevention of the amount of plastic. The amount of plastic straws being used has been cut down drastically, people are carrying reusable coffee cups, metal and glass bottles are becoming more and more popular and cotton buds have been changed from plastic to paper stems. Shops are slowly taking steps towards reducing their plastic consumption as well, with new plastic free aisles being introduced by various companies. This change won’t happen overnight however and so the work that people like Kiko are doing is helping to educate the public and support everyone..

Our team (Team JG) did something different this week; we went to Shaftsbury Avenue to try out the new Crystal Maze. If you were ever a fan of the show you will know how the game works. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the 90’s show, you are led through a ‘maze’ or different themed rooms with various challenges in each. Led by an enthusiastic host, you are left to work as a team and must help each other pass each challenge. This was not just your everyday work outing, this was a team building exercise! This was a time for us to combine our expertise and skills to work together and encourage each other to win the game and therefore collect as many crystals as possible. In our day jobs at Joyce Guiness we very much rely on each other as we all have our individual duties to complete, which when put together, complete the main task. It is important therefore that we are able to work together as a team and coordinate ideas and skills. When doing team building activities these can highlight various characteristics and skills of individuals that you might not have known about before. Not only this, it can also help to build trust between you all. Having trust within a team is crucial as it means that people are comfortable to share ideas..

Imagine a room filled with old arcade games, mini golf, virtual reality and an electric car race track. Can’t think of anywhere with all of that? Four Thieves has it all under one roof. Head down for a fun filled evening with a group of friends! Bobby Fitzpatrick If you fancy an evening surrounded by vintage décor, great pizza, delicious cocktails and some old school music, then take yourself and your dancing shoes along to Bobby Fitzpatrick in Hampstead. Spend the evening sipping on old style cocktails and toe tapping in this bar which has been sent back in time. Rewind to a year ago and I knew nothing about recruitment agencies and neither did my friends. We were all talking about moving to London and looking for jobs and we thought the way we would do this would be by looking online and networking. We didn’t realise that there were people who would help us find our dream jobs. A couple of months into our year of studying on a secretarial course, some recruitment agencies came in and started talking to us about our options following our graduation. Two of these talks in and I was still none the wiser. Why would people help find us jobs and if they would, how much would it cost us? At the end of one of these talks, someone plucked up the courage to ask how much the service of using recruitment agencies cost, and they told us “nothing”. That couldn’t be right could it? Fast forward a year and I have been working at a recruitment agency for a few months now, and I couldn’t recommend signing up with an agency any more. Thinking back to my naivety and now seeing how the job market works, I wonder how anyone can get a job without the help of an agency. Using an agency to help you find a job couldn’t be any easier. All the hard work is left to your..

December has thrown us into the Christmas spirit and trees are appearing in the windows and Christmas jumpers can be seen under jackets and hidden behind scarfs. The manic rush to finish, or start in some cases, your Christmas shopping is setting in and what better place to get ideas for presents than at a Christmas Market. Yes, they’re colder than shops and bring the risk of getting soaked by the random downpours of rain that keep hitting the City, but they are swarmed by cheery people, Christmas music and the smell of mulled wine and delicious food stalls. What better way to tick some items off your list and get in the Christmas spirit? We have compiled a list of the best Christmas Markets in London for you to go to over the forthcoming weekends. Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park It may not come as a surprise to most of you that Winter Wonderland’s Angel’s Market is number 1 on the list. With the opportunity to shop, ice skate, eat and drink, go on rides and watch various shows, there is much more to do than just shop for stocking fillers. The market itself is huge, with roughly 200 miniature chalets, covered in fairy lights and selling a whole variety of different things. You can easily spend a whole day wondering around the market and eating from various food vendors..

Sunday 11th November. The day that we remember all of those who fought for their country and died in the line of duty. 100 years this year since the armistice was signed. For all of those who wear poppies, continue reading to find out why. On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemeteries at Ypres, Arras, the Asine and the Somme. None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why. The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag. Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied. A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier overnight. On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside. On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed: "A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country". On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside. There, he was saluted..

The fourth Invictus Games are upon us and next week our MD, Pip Cox, is swapping the office for the stands as she goes with her family to support her brother Spencer Bull who will be competing in the GB team at the games in Sydney. Spencer will be competing in the swimming, sailing and shot put. The Invictus Games were started by Prince Harry four years ago and is for wounded, injured or ill servicemen and women who have served their countries in conflicts and have been affected physically or non-physically whilst doing so. The games are used as a way to encourage these people to incorporate sports into their rehabilitation programmes. They celebrate the strength of these people and all that they have done for their nations as well as raises awareness of the injuries caused by war. Invictus is Latin for the word ‘unconquered’ and the games show the fighting spirits displayed by those taking part. J J Chalmers, who is presenting the games on the BBC this year and is an Invictus Games gold medallist has said, “The games have changed my life so I live for the opportunity to help showcase them, especially as they continue to grow, educate, inspire and entertain”. In the UK alone, 1,100 people showed an interest in the games and 400 contestants competed to make the 72 person strong team..

If you know Joyce Guiness, you know how much we love our food! We think that Christmas time is the perfect time to ditch those diets and start sampling all the delights that come at this time of year. We are going to give a run down of our favourite, festive foods and how to create them! PIGS IN BLANKETS To kick start, we are going to do a popular, much loved choice at Christmas- Pigs in Blankets. To find the best recipe we have called on Jamie Oliver who gives us a mouth watering version. Method Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4. Working one at a time, lay the bacon out on a board and run the sharp side of your knife along the length of the rasher to stretch it out – this will make it even crispier. Dot with a few herb leaves, then place a sausage at one end and roll the bacon around it until it’s totally wrapped up. Place in a roasting tray and repeat till they’re all done. Cook for 30 minutes, or until golden, gnarly and cooked through. Using a fish slice, scrape the pigs in blankets from the bottom of the tray, leaving them in there, then add the Worcestershire sauce and give it a good shake, scraping all that sticky goodness from the bottom of the tray. Drizzle in the..

At this time of year London comes into its prime. There are beautiful lights on every street, Christmas music blaring out from shops and restaurants as well as the most fun, funkiest pop up fayres and pop ups. We are going to tell you our favourite ones that we think you must visit before the festive period is over… Winterland Do you remember way back to the summer, we kept telling you about the amazing little gem called Neverland? Well, they have replaced that summer hotspot to a winter paradise and it is better than you can imagine. Based on Wandsworth Bridge Road, there is something for everyone. For those that want to sit back and relax there are amazing little igloos which you can sit in and look out across the Thames. My personal highlight for Winterland is the games that are available to play. They can range from Prosecco Pong (how can you resist?!), table tennis and even curling. Perhaps you and your friends could be in the Olympic curling team 2018! Similar to Neverland, the food at Winterland is nothing short of delicious. There are fondues, steak frittes and raclette burgers, something for everyone. Kew Gardens Light Display Although personally I have never visited the Kew Gardens light display, it fills me with jealousy when I come across people that have. I am sure, like..

OUR NIGHT WITH KIKO MATTHEWS We have been talking about Kiko on our social media and blogs for quite a while now. So when Kiko asked if we wanted her to do a talk we absolutely leapt at the opportunity. If you have read our blogs on her before, you will know that we completely admire and respect what she is doing. Having heard her talk we are now in utter awe of her! Last night, we had such a great evening at the Marquis of Westminster with our candidates, clients and good friends. The prosecco was flowing and chips (sweet potato we’ll have you know) were being eaten. We were all there to listen to Kiko Matthews talk about her incredible solo transatlantic adventure in 2018. Our guests were all transfixed on the enormity of her row. The talk was factual, fascinating and hilarious! For those that don’t know, in January 2018, Kiko Matthews is aiming to row the Atlantic solo. She also wants to break the Women’s world record by 10 days, therefore completing the 3000 miles in 45 days. This would be no mean feat for anyone to achieve, but Kiko is doing it having overcome Cushing’s disease, as well as having the tumour raise it’s ugly head again, a few months ago, with just six months to go until the big row. In 2009, Kiko..

BEST BARGAINS THIS BLACK FRIDAY This Friday is famously known as Black Friday. This is the day where shops reduce their prices for keen shoppers to get the best deals before Christmas. Black Friday originated in America and is always the day after US Thanksgiving. The tradition has crept across the pond and there are some great deals on the high street and online which are going to be very tricky to resist! Here at Joyce Guiness we love a bargain and thought that we would let you know our favourite bargains which are due to appear on Black Friday 2017! MONICA VINADER Who doesn’t love Monica Vinader. Her pieces of jewellery are so simple, yet elegant and really go with everything you are wearing. Whilst I would love to treat myself to her pieces everyday, I feel that on Black Friday it is more justifiable! They are offering a whopping 30% off for Black Friday, which is making it very difficult to resist. If your will power is better than mine, you could use the discount to buy jewellery for friends and family or get someone to get it for you for Christmas. MISSOMA Missoma is a favourite in our office, their quirky, cool jewellery is a real crowd pleaser and looks amazing. They are offering a black Friday deal, which must be amazing because when..

JOYCE GUINESS DO BRUNCH Here in the office, there is nothing we love more than a good weekend brunch. Judging by the queues outside our favourite restaurants at “brunch time”, the rest of London agree with us. We thought that it was high time Joyce Guiness shared with you our opinion of where the best places to go are. It has been tough, but we have managed to narrow it down to six (we couldn’t quite do five) must visit eateries. Mommi, Clapham High St Our first recommendation to you is Mommi on Clapham High St. This restaurant is a mix between South American and Japanese food. This might sound like an odd partnership, but it works- and is mighty delicious. The menu includes dishes such as: Huevos Rancheros, Brunch Sashimi Salad and for those with a sweet tooth- Cinnamon Waffle Churros. I can vouch and say they are all utterly brilliant! If you are feeling extra naughty you can pay an extra £30 and have bottomless bubbles to add to the fun! Dirty Bones, Shoreditch What a treat Dirty Bones is. I first stumbled across it by accident, it was pouring with rain and I ran into the closest place for shelter. The best shelter I could have found! Dirty Bones is an American style restaurant. Not only do they have a fantastic cocktail menu, but their brunch menu..

In case you hadn’t seen, today is International Day of the Girl! This is a celebration to recognise how hard women work to stand up for their rights. Before our morning meeting today, we were discussing which women inspire us and who we really look up to. There were so many past and present that were mentioned, but, we thought that we would mention just a few ladies that really stand out to us. Our Mothers Yes, our Mums. All of us decided that these are the women who we really look up to, trust and are able to really rely on in any situation. We completely admire their sympathy, compassion and although it is hard to admit, their brutal honesty on all matters (even if you don’t want to hear it at the time)! Thanks Mums! The Queen Does the Queen even need an explanation to why we chose her?! We think that she is totally amazing. At 91, she still has a full time job with the greatest dignity at every event, she is the figurehead of Britain and the longest reining monarch as well as still looking amazing in whatever she wears. We love her! Adwoa Aboah This 25 year old model is just an inspiration. As well as being a top supermodel for so many incredible designers, she is doing something which in our eyes is..

Last week, you probably would have seen the huge number of social media posts and blogs written about the Langman Cup Polo Tournament which took place last Saturday. What a day it was! The Cup was being played in honour of Roy Langman and was organised by his daughter and Ingrid’s sister Charlotte. We arrived at Epsom Polo Club, and the ground had been transformed with food and drink stalls with a few classic cars! Whilst sipping our champagne and swallowing our oysters the first event of the day started. This was a classic Alfa Romeo racing one of the polo ponies, I thought that it was obvious the car would win, but, I could not have been more wrong! With the car skidding in the mud, the horse ran to victory in front of a big crowd! There was such delicious food to keep us full through the day. There was a Farmyard Kitchen offering everything from burgers and chips to fajitas, for more of a snack there was a focaccia van and of course there was the amazing Oyster bar for those who fancied something a bit different! Tattinger were keeping us hydrated all day with their very drinkable champagne… The first polo match took place; it was the HAC against Epsom Polo Club which was a really well fought match and Epsom Polo Club just managed..

Here at Joyce Guiness we are getting very excited about Saturday. The first Langman Cup is being held in honour of Roy Langman at Epsom Polo Club. In anticipation for Saturday, we thought that we would give you the rules of polo for you to mull over. For more information on the day visit our previous blog post: So… What do you need to know about polo? The objective of the game is to hit the ball down the field and score as many goals as you can. After a goal is scored the teams switch side. There are four chukkas (periods of play) in a match and each one lasts seven minutes. A Polo Ground is 300 yards long by 200 yards wide although if it is boarded it need only be 160 yards wide. The goalposts, open at the top, are 8 yards apart. Play starts with the umpire throwing in the ball between the two teams lined up in front of him. In the same way play is restarted after a goal is scored or if the ball goes out over the side boards. If the ball goes over the back line there is a hit-in by the defenders. There is no offside in polo nor is there a corner, instead a 60 yd hit from the back line is taken by the attacking side opposite..

The end of September can be a depressing time of year. The summer weddings and parties are drying up, the days are getting shorter and winter is very much on the horizon. But don’t worry Joyce Guiness are giving you one more thing to keep clinging on to Summer 2017- The Langman Cup Polo Game. This polo game is being organised by Ingrid’s sister and we are proud to be sponsoring the event! It is being held at the Epsom Polo Club and we truly believe that it will be an amazing day. There will be at least two polo games, the first being the famous HAC (Honourable Artillery Club) and Epsom Polo Club, they have a famous rivalry so be sure not to miss out. Not only will there be polo games, but, the local RAC Club is lending a classic car for a horse to race against. We have definitely not seen this before and we cannot wait to watch it! If the polo and car race does not win you over, we would hope that the Champagne and Oyster bar will. Taittinger are one of the other sponsors, there will be a bar and plenty of bubbles to fuel the day! The event is being held in memory of Roy Langman, tickets will be £5- bought on the door and all of the money will go to..

You may have read Lucy’s previous blog on charities and noted the incredible challenge which Kiko Matthews is going to attempt in January 2018. In fact, we were so amazed at the enormity of it that we have decided to support her. In this blog, I will give you a bit of information about what the challenge is, the reason for her taking part in the challenge and what you can do to help, as well as giving a bit of background on Kiko herself. In 2009, Kiko Matthews was diagnosed with a very rare illness called Cushing’s disease. This not only caused a tumour on her pituitary gland but also created many other life- threatening problems such as diabetes and muscle wasting. She made a remarkable recovery, and eight years on wants to see how she can push her body to the limit. In January 2018, Kiko Matthews is going to attempt to row across the Atlantic unsupported. Not only does she want to do this, she wants to be the first woman to row the 3,000 miles solo. Her aim is to do it in 45 days, if completed in that time, it would be 11 days quicker than the current world record. She believes that aside from the inevitable physical endurance, which up to a point you can train for, the other challenge faced will be mental...

The sun is shining and summer is finally on its way! With these months looming, beach body preparations are no doubt underway! What better way to get fit than setting a challenge and raising some money for charity at the same time? With so many wonderful, worthy causes it is often hard to choose which charity to support as all of them need money raised. For me, I wanted to do it for a charity close to my heart.I think for most this is the root of the motivation to undergo a crazy mission! If you read our January blog, you would have seen some of the challenges which the other girls are taking part in this year. Recently we were privileged enough to meet Kiko Matthews who is single handedly rowing across the Atlantic (3000 miles!), she has set herself the challenge of, not only completing this mammoth mission, but also to become the fastest female to solo row unsupported! If you are interested, check out her website, it really is inspirational! If you fancy a challenge this June, Cancer Research are ‘Walking all over Cancer’ with setting the task of walking 10,000 steps a day through June. This is the perfect opportunity to get fit and at the same time know you are raising money to beat cancer sooner. From reading other blogs on charity and fundraising,..

There has been excitement in the Joyce Guiness office over the last week, due to London’s beach opening! We believe that London is the best city in the world and a beach is the only thing that could make it better. ‘Neverland’ is the pop up of the summer. It is an outdoor stretch of Thames beach on the North side of the river, south of Fulham and next to Wandsworth Bridge. It will have amazing street food and in true British style will have Beach Huts. Although Neverland is alcohol free, there is the opportunity to BYOB, they even provide mocktails for you then to create cocktails! Tickets to get into this event costs £5 with no corkage fee. The pop up starts on Wednesday 10th May and is open on weekday evenings and all day on weekends….If you need us that is where we will be… If you are not as keen on beaches as us, there are some other fab Pop Ups arriving this summer. Another great love of the Joyce Guiness office is cheese… So when we found out about the Cheese Bar opening in Camden Market we could not contain ourselves. There will be urban cheesemakers, Swiss fried cheese balls, special cheesy dishes as well as craft beers, live jazz and blues. Sign us up ASAP! Box Park in Shoreditch is under refurbishment and opens..

With the weather outside today you would not know that Summer is just around the corner. Not only does the Summer bring glorious weather (?!), BBQ’s and a whole lot of fun, it also is a time when sporting events come into their own. This blog is all about various British sporting events which are taking place over the Summer 2017. BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS Bringing in the summer is Badminton Horse Trials which is a four day, all-rounder event. It is great fun. The Thursday and Friday showcase the world’s best dressage horses, with some beautiful routines. Saturday is the most popular day, it is the Cross Country course. Not only is it fun to watch with the jumps getting harder each year, but you can also walk the beautiful course. Sunday is more of a relaxed day in comparison to the hectic Cross Country Saturday. You can sit and watch horses jumping to amazing heights, of course excitement is added as it is the culmination of the competition, and you can see the prize winner being given the amazing prize. Badminton is not just for the horse lovers. The shops which exhibit there are fantastic: gourmet food stands, specialist leather shops, clothes stalls even pet shops. I highly recommend it, a great day out watching riding and some retail therapy- what more could you want?! ROYAL ASCOT Staying on..

, a new scheme, funded privately by Singaporean investors is “a new way to live in London”, is the corporate answer to the issues facing new workers or students in the capital hunting for a flat and someone to share the costs. It claims to give tenants –“a hassle-free, collective life similar to a student hall of residence, but for people starting out on their career”. Sounds great right? Some agree but most say it’s a faze that can’t last, and won’t last. Most of the rooms are 10 sq metres in size only and relatively dear compared to the traditional flat-shares seen in London’s inner suburbs, but here you won’t find cockroaches, mice or untidy bedroom as the new set ups even come with cleaners, who are included in the cost of living there, either once a week or once every two weeks. Those that enquire and are keen to move there typically pay just over £1,000 a month for what the scheme has called a “Twodio”. For that they get a bed described as “double” – smaller than your average double bed, plus a private bathroom and access to a kitchen unit that is shared with one other tenant (let’s hope you get along!) Bedclothes are supplied free of charge (to fit the smaller beds) as is the gas, wifi and other bills too. The new in –..
